Welcome New Members
Welcome to all of our 2010 / 2011 new members. It was a great year with many great events. Thank you to all that participated and get ready for many more scheduled for our new 2011 / 2012 year. The Knights of Columbus is an organization of dedicated Catholic gentlemen, 1.6 million members strong world wide and growing. It is you, our new members, that keep the local councils growing and which allows us to support our parishes and our community. Please share your experience with a friend and ask if they would like to be a part of an organization that fills your heart and mind with the joy of giving to others and the feeling that comes with making a difference. We are men of faith guided not only by our belief in God and the Catholic Church, but by our belief in each other and ourselves. The more we can grow the more we can accomplish together. Thank you to every member new and old for your help.
Council 893's History
Council 893 was the third council to be initiated in the state of Alabama. The date of inception was April 10, 1904. The first Grand Knight of the council was Thomas Carr, who was also the Mayor of the City of Montgomery. The first council home was located in a two story house on Court Street, at what is now the overpass above Interstate 85. The council drew members from Montgomery and the surrounding cities and towns. When Interstate 85 was planned, the council home was sold to the state for the purpose of construction of the highway. The council then moved further south, to Goode Street, just behind Sidney Lanier High School. There, an addition was added to the building to accommodate various activities, such as New Years dances, parties, and conducting bingo games The council remained active at the Goode Street address until a decision was made to sell the home...
2012 LENTEN FISH FRY at St Bede
The Knights of Columbus Council 893 will kick off Lent by cooking our now famous "Lenten Fried Fish Dinners" for the 1st Friday of Lent this February 24. We will also cook for the 3rd and 5th Fridays on March 9 and March 23. All dinners will be served in the St Bede Family Life Center beginning at 5:30pm. Cost: $5 per person.Which only covers the cost of food. (Reservations must be made by calling the Church office the Tuesday of that week in order to provide ample food for all in attendance.) We always enjoy giving back to our Parishes and this is one of our favorite activities. These fish frys are always well attended so call and make your resevation to join us and your fellow parishinors for fun and fellowship. Most importantly, Stations of the Cross will follow each dinner at 7pm in the church.
Council 893 Crosses Program
I think most of us are aware of our annual awarding of crosses to mainly children who are receiving their First Communion but not everyone is knowledgeable on how the program started the purpose and reason for the continued support. We will answer some of those questions and eliminate some curiosity.
